Toihaus is a place for contemporary art, where an international and transdisciplinary team brings together the various fields of dance, music, and visual arts in a poetic connection.
Cornelia Böhnisch and Katharina Schrott are the choreographers of the Toihaus productions and shape the artistic signature of the theater. The aim is to find the power of reduction in the compositional and choreographic potential of material and object. Cornelia Böhnisch and Katharina Schrott were awarded the International Prize for Art & Culture 2022 by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg for their artistic work.

Katharina Schrott
Artistic Director
Katharina Schrott considers dance as a phenomenon present in every action of daily life. In her artistic work, she explores the effect of inner feelings on outward movement. Her choreographies center on the interplay between humans and objects and the resulting resonating space.
Born and raised in Salzburg, Katharina Schrott studied contemporary choreography, dance, and performance at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam and completed further educations in dance, choreography, and theater in Austria and abroad. Since 2015, she has been the artistic director of the international theater festival for young children, BimBam. Together with Cornelia Böhnisch, she has been directing Toihaus in Salzburg since 2018. The two choreographers were awarded for their artistic work in 2022 with the International Grand Prize for Art & Culture by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg.
Yoko Yagihara
Artist
Yoko Yagihara is fascinated by the power of collaborative creation and sees art as an invitation to experience things directly. As a musician and performer, she draws on her extensive stage experience and transforms complex matters into concrete sensual encounters. Through her art, Yoko Yagihara creates moments of touch in which hearing, seeing, and feeling flow into one another.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, Yoko Yagihara studied piano in Tokyo as well as music and dance education with a focus on percussion at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In addition to these two main instruments, she plays a variety of other instruments. Since 2005, she has been working for Toihaus both on stage and as a music dramaturge and arts educator.
Cornelia Böhnisch
Artistic Director
Cornelia Böhnisch unites choreography, installation, and performance in her artistic practice, focusing on materials and their musical and choreographic potential. In her pieces, she creates immersive spaces and moving sculptures that evoke a deep sense of vitality and vulnerability.
Born and raised in Tübingen, Cornelia Böhnisch studied contemporary dance at the Bruckner University in Linz. Several stays in Japan, including as a foreign scholarship holder of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture, have shaped her aesthetic tenor. Since 2018, she has been artistic co-director of Toihaus in Salzburg. For her artistic work, Cornelia Böhnisch and Katharina Schrott were awarded in 2022 with the International Grand Prize for Art & Culture by the Cultural Fund of the City of Salzburg.
Felicitas Biller
Dramaturgy/Documentation
Felicitas Biller loves playing with words and their creative possibilities. As a dramaturge, she has been supporting the Toihaus since 2019 with her linguistic skills, her gift for precise observation, and her diligence and foresight. She studied German language and literature as well as Jewish cultural history at Paris Lodron University in Salzburg, where she also worked as a teaching and research assistant, just like for the Salzburg Literary Archive and the Stefan Zweig Center. As an assistant director and performer, she has gained a wealth of experience and built up an extensive network in numerous theater productions on the independent scene in Salzburg. Felicitas Biller is moreover in charge as an editor, proofreader, and organizer for mosaik, a literature and culture initiative, which promotes new voices in the art discourse. Since 2025, she has also been a member of the Landeskulturbeirat Salzburg.
