For nearly 30 years, Theatre Madam Bach has been a pioneer in visual theatre for children aged 2–6. Through rich visual imagery, live soundscapes and poetic storytelling, they create sensory-driven experiences that speak directly to young audiences.
Touring nationally and internationally, the company develops works that invite children to engage on their own terms. Their shows often extend into illustrated books, DIY videos and creative workshops, all designed to foster curiosity and creativity.
Theatre Madam Bach is committed to the ongoing development of artistic practices through international collaboration. Since 2014, they have been partner in several Creative Europe projects, working alongside leading European companies to share knowledge and explore new approaches.
The company has recently created an Art Space & Knowledge Base, functioning as a production venue and platform for residencies and artistic exchange. It also features the outdoor “Curious Garden”, hosting festivals and sensory-based activities for children.

Christian Schrøder
Managing Director
Christian Schrøder is a trained actor and musician whose artistic practice spans performance, composition, and hands-on creation of the company’s productions for early years audiences.
As managing director, he is a driving force behind Theatre Madam Bach’s international touring and global collaborations, playing a key role in building and sustaining partnerships worldwide. He brings a curious, open and collaborative approach to artistic exchange, which has been central to the company’s development over time.
Pernille Bach
Artistic Director
Pernille Bach is artistic director, creator, actress and visual artist. She co-founded Theatre Madam Bach in 1996 with Christian Schrøder, with a shared ambition to create high-quality theatre for young audiences.
With extensive experience in visual theatre for early years audiences, she has developed a distinct artistic language rooted in a strong sensitivity to children’s perspectives and ways of perceiving the world. Her work is central to the company’s artistic identity and continues to shape its creative development and international collaborations.
Anne Hübertz Brekne
Production Dramaturge
Anne Hübertz Brekne is a dramaturge working closely with Theatre Madam Bach as a creative sparring partner across artistic development and production processes. Her work moves between concept development, structuring ideas and hands-on collaboration throughout the creative process.
She has collaborated with the company since 2014, contributing to productions as well as international projects in a range of roles, including dramaturgical work, production support, text work, and translations. In the team, she works across artistic and production processes, helping shape ideas and materials into a coherent whole.
